Christmas Elf

Combining a few of the Christmas presents I have received I have decided that I look like a Christmas Elf...

Orange

I love orange people. I tried to become one last week with some hair chemicals, but alas it did not work at all. Perhaps when I get bored again I will try for a second time with more gusto. For now I will just have to settle with admiring this orange boy that I found on Facehunter.

I Swear its not a space filler...

Here are some more photos from my favourite Japanese line 'Né-Net'

I'm not such a fan of this denim skirt (the peasant skirt was way
over done a couple of years ago) but I really like this top

Man jumpsuit!? How could you go wrong?

Here are some more Japanese Fashions that I have come across. I decided to post the most outrageous looking of them so as best to create a sensory overload.

How much longer do you think the crazy bright colour clothes thing will last (not that I am complaining at all!) They say that bright colours are in vogue when times are tough (ie. economic crisis) Remember the 80s?

If this doesn't make you want to go up against a bull I don't know what will.

Craftermath

Well I'm finished with exams and done with the craft sale, so maybe now there will be some regular bloggin action...

The Craft sale itself was a little slow, but I'm glad that I did it (despite utter lack of sleep trying to finish making things).

This is my table. Sadly its not in its full glory because I was packing up at this point.

My favourite thing and also the most exciting to make were bowties!
Here is Sir Brett kindly sporting one to show off its fabulousness, what a sales model.

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder?

Sorry for the lack of blog posts these days. We are currently in the heart of exam season. But it is almost over! (well at least for Rusty). Stay tuned for some excitingly tacky x-mas and classy holiday themed photoshoots coming up. Also here's a photo of another creative project that I have been neglecting lately: knitting my extremely long cable knit leg warmers! Thanks for reading and I promise we will be consistently back soon.

Puffed Muffs and Purple Apparel

Yesterday, to my great excitement I was given a muff! I had been thinking that it would be cool to own one ever since I got this huge Lady Coat. It is the type of coat that you should wear with gloves rather than mittens, which I am not used to and find to be not quite as warm. Anyways, now I shall feel super ladylike and tres fancy walking down the streets. I hope I can pull it off!
Also after buying my extremely large Lady coat (for $10!!!) I realized that all my winter wear was purple! I'm not normally such a fan of uniform colour but maybe if I wear too much colour it will make me look more ridiculous then I already do.

But on a side note, have you heard about people who wear all uniform colour?
Awhile back I read an article in New York Magazine about people who obsessively only wear the same colour. Every piece of clothing in their closet the same... wouldn't that get boring after awhile?

I can't decide if I like the coat belted or open. Any suggestions?
I feel like a behemoth in it sometimes...

Follow up to Hipster Trash

A kind friend directed my attention to where this random photo for that video was actually posted. And now I remember where it was from. Let that be a lesson to me. Don't let strangers take your picture at dance clubs.

Brady Bunch?

RWM:I got this idea for coloured print shirts on patterned background from some magazine. Now that I have posted it, I realize we look like the Brady Bunch! Oops. Oh wells, I lurve pattern on pattern any day, even if it is a little Brady Bunchesque.

WLL: I want to be Jane! Mary! Bob! ahahaha I have never watched the Brady Bunch, so I bet those aren't even names of any characters....oh well! pattern on pattern is almost as delicious as guy on guy, i mean...........

Hipster Trash

According to this video on Black20 News, I am considered a hipster (ie they put my photo in their film demonstrating what a hipster looks like). I have no recollection of said photo ever being taken... but it makes me laugh. Oh to be hipster trash.
Scroll to around 2:32/33, unless you can stand watching the film leading up to it. Then laugh.

The "Cardi"

CARDIGANS!GIVING!ME!CARDIO! I couldn't help but dance in this sunny number!

The thing I love most about autumn weather is layering, and I get to give every lonely cardi (no, not carny) in my closet a chance to shine! Most of mine are preloved from Poppy(my grams). Those leaves were wet by the way, that's how dedicated we are!

Rusty wears: granny knits from By the Pound, clothing swap scarf
Wong Ling Ling wears: her mama's scarf, a slipdress from Nana and her granny's cardigan.

Brett wears a VV cardigan, Guess? shirt and Kensington (i think) sneaks.

Wong Ling Ling wears her mama's mustard cardigan, her leather booties, her leather satchel bag, her gramma's flower print dress (but shortened) and sockies from kensington discount mart- wow I really should start getting my own clothes...
Rusty wears boots from NewYork, a cardigan from VV boutique and tights from H&M.

Frump to Fabulous: Buttoned Shirt Addition

This over sized buttoned shirt was another great find from the forever-loved VV Boutique. Sadly once donned by Wong Ling Ling, she looked as if she was drowning. Something had to be done. A classic tale of rags to riches, now she looks like a million bucks!

Sailing Away

Japanese school children all have to wear uniforms, and boy are they the cutest uniforms that I have ever seen. While in Japan I became obsessed with the adorable sailor outfits that I would see pass me by on clusters of giggling girls. In a Tokyo flea market I found these amazing man sailor loafers and upon my return I made this sailor inspired dress. Sadly I have not worn the shoes as they are a little too wide, and not very comfortable. I was thinking of giving them away, but before I do I have to have documented evidence that I own such stupendous shoes. So all aboard lets sail away!

Harold and Maude

Harold and Maude is my all time favourite movie.
A boy obsessed with death, plans numerous mock suicides to capture his mother’s attention. Harold meets Maude, a 79-year-old optimist with a buoyant, fun-loving attitude, who sees the things in life worth living for. Harold falls in love.

I had the idea for this photo shoot for a while and then recently the fabulous gal over at The Cherry Blossom Girl did a shoot in Maude’s honour. I guess this movie is just very inspirational.

Spotlight on Beacon's Closet

Okay, this is the last post about New York. I swear. I had a chance to visit a few vintage shops while in NY, and Beacon's Closet, located in Williamsburg (another location in Park Slope), seemed to have the most hype. As we walked towards it, we past many a trendy lookin' girl toting the bright pink bags, with the strange looking bald headed man sporting thick rimmed glasses, plastered on the side. I did find it to be a bit pricey but I'm a kind of cheap, and its New York, which is expensive all round. But it was also overwhelming in terms of the selection. The place is huge and one could spend hours there looking for that perfect find.
The cool thing about Beacon's Closet is that you can trade in your old clothes for cash or store credit (if they are valued/wanted). I think this is one of the best parts about vintage/thrift is the recycling of clothes, but also of ideas. Things come into and out of vogue in both society and ones own personal style, it is a constant cycle.

Art in the City

New York is just teeming with artwork. Not only in the numerous museums and galleries but also on the streets. Besides the fact that all of its buildings are gorgeous, coming across pieces of art creates an added excitement when exploring the city.

Doorway in Chelsea

Entranceway to Comme des Garçons!
